Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The DofE programme was set up by the Duke of Edinburgh over 60 years ago to encourage young people to try new experiences and become “world ready”. Whilst it is voluntary, many aspects of the DofE are similar to the International Baccalaureate’s compulsory CAS programme (Creativity, Activity, Service).

All our Diploma students, whether following the Baccalauréat, Maturité or International curriculum, can start the programme in 3 ème (Bronze level from 14 years), 2 nde (Silver from 15 years) or 1 ère /Terminale (Gold from 16-18 years).

Each level (Bronze, Silver and Gold) has 4 sections:

– Adventurous journey (2 expeditions per year for each level, mountaineering, canoeing or cycling)

– Physical recreation

– Voluntary service

– Skills (developing a personal talent)

At “Gold” level, participants are also required to complete a Gold Residential Project which involves working and living with a new team for a week.

The DofE programme is both stimulating and challenging. Motivation, commitment and good organisational skills are all required to ensure the young person will complete their Diploma studies.

Accredited schools such as Institut Florimont call on qualified supervisors and assessors to evaluate how students are progressing in the levels. Approved providers offer the specific adventure activities such as hiking, canoeing and cycling, ensuring the highest standards of safety and suitability are maintained.

For more information, please email Damien Genton at dgenton@florimont.ch – Applications to the scheme are accepted in early September every year via the link below:
