Primary

One of the aims of primary school at Florimont is to support them throughout their time at school, helping them increase their knowledge and skills and become more independent while respecting their aptitudes and their rate of progress.

While maintaining the educational principles on which the school was founded, new approaches in teaching and learning have increased levels of achievement.

From the 11th grade (CP, 3P Harmos) to the 7th grade, the children build on the language skills that are essential to successful study and extend them through constant involvement in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

In mathematics, the pupils acquire the four basic operations including decimals. Teaching focuses on geometry and problem solving to develop pupils’ reasoning skills and abstract thinking.

The curriculum includes a number of other subjects to provide a rounded education: history, geography, natural science, philosophy, music education, art. Physical education and extra-curricular activities organised during the lunch break (judo, fencing, football, handball, floorball, basketball, climbing, theatre, choir, piano, flute, violin, guitar, chess, different workshops) provide a balance to the curriculum and enable pupils to follow their own interests.

All the classes in the primary school from 10th grade receive six periods a week of English. Children whose home language is English have a specially designed course.

From 9th to 7th grades, there is an introduction to German for two hours a week. IT classes begin in 8th grade.

For pupils belonging to the Catholic faith (or for anyone who wishes to take part) there are classes in religious instruction, masses and preparation classes for Baptism and First Communion.
